It ain't cheap to train for an IRONMAN.
I have tried to tally up everything that I have spent just this year for your casual perusal below.
Keep in mind that I am average...
I am cheap...
And I don't buy into all the fancy gear that others may use.
I also purchased a bunch of stuff before this year, such as TYR bathing suits ($40 ea), a indoor trainer ($100), bike necessities like helmet, lights, clip shoes, etc ($400), previous race entries for practice ($$$$$), wet suit and additional swim items ($200), Landshark Tri Suit ($120), AND MORE!
It's a lot!
In 2019 alone.....
~Pre-Owned Bike $1500
~Extra gear (aero bars, lights, gloves, etc)- $500
~Additional Food intake- at least $100 more a week as training increased May-Oct
~Supplements (Sports Beans, Shot Blocks, Gatorade, etc)- $400
~Prep races in 2019- $400
~Gas mileage to drive to bike, run, race- at least $20 more in gas per week May-Oct
~INFINIT- $100
~Swim Lessons/Pool Entry- $150
~Bike repairs/check/new tires- $200
~Physical Therapy/Chiro Visits for injuries- $400
~IM Tri Tats (because even though we pay $1000 entry fee, IM can't give us tats. Boo!)- $15
~New running shoes x 2- $300
~KT Tape, Meds, etc- $100
~Post race weightless float and massage- $150
Add all that up and see how it compares to your expenses!
I think a lot of people might sign up for Ironman, and not realize that it's not just the $1000 entry fee you are dealing with!
Just sharing some valid info with ya'll! :)
Last week I did a Triple Brick (bike, run, bike, run, bike, run) to prep the legs and work more on nutrition. I learned a lot and made a video!
Enjoy!
