I train folks for a living. So it makes sense for me to sign up for as many races as possible, right? Nope.
I know my limits.
Between my main job at Norton Healthcare/Sports Health, all my side hustle jobs, maintaining a boyfriend, maintaining a 120 year old house, and keeping my senior dog healthy... I'm stretched to the limit already.
So it is a HUGE decision for me to sign up for a full IRONMAN. It's like another part-time, maybe even full-time, job!
For me, there was a lot of mental and physical prep involved before signing up. I literally JUST learned how to swim January 2016. A few weeks in the Mary T adult swim lessons, and a few meetings with Mike Jotautas from Swim Smooth Louisville.... and that's it! It was the grand idea from my friend Steph to get into the "Tri World", and I did my very first Sprint Tri in April 2016 (pic below).
I guess it stuck.
Look at me now, Mom!
Steph and I volunteered at the IRONMAN finish line that same year, and I almost fell into the peer-pressure and complete excitement from watching the finishers cross, and signed up for the full IRONMAN the next day. Then I realized that would be CRAZY STUPID!
Since then, I've managed to do handfuls of Sprints, several Olympics, and 3 half-IRONMAN events.
I feel ready. I feel physically capable. I feel mentally prepared.
I'm following a combo of the Beginner Triathlete Training Program, and the Official IRONMAN Training Program this year.
23 weeks of fun starts May 6th!
Stay tuned for fun adventures!
